About Atorvastatin
Atorvastatin is the most widely used member of the statin family — the group of medicines that lower cholesterol — and it is by far the most commonly prescribed cholesterol drug in Nigeria. As Nigerians increasingly live with obesity, type-2 diabetes, and high blood pressure, high cholesterol (dyslipidaemia) has become a major driver of heart attacks and strokes, and atorvastatin sits at the centre of how doctors manage that risk. It is stocked in essentially every pharmacy in the country and is available both as the original brand Lipitor (Pfizer) and as more affordable generics such as Atorlip and Storvas.
